IGNORANCE

I had another I post ready, but I am so freaking outraged I have to blog about it. Because that is what I do when something really pisses me off. I blog.

Let me preface this by saying I am an animal lover. I have four dogs and numerous other animals. I've worked for rescue groups, and several of my pets are rescued animals.

I'm also infertile.

That is why I was horrified to read that PETA is giving away a free vasectomy in honor of National Infertility Awareness Week. What. The. Fuck.

It seems that not only does PETA think we have too many animals, now they think the Earth has too many people.

They decided a great way to get people involved in their cause is to mock the pain of the more than six million Americans who suffer from infertility.

Good idea.

I am not going to link to their website, because I don't want to give them the traffic they are looking for. But click here to see a screen shot and read for yourself what they are doing.

Now, I'm not one who is easily offended. I'm not typically sensitive about things. But this was just too much. For a large and "respected" organization to make fun of something so deeply personal and heartbreaking is just beyond my comprehension.

What's next, a free abortion?

This post is part of the A to Z Challenge.

I wouldnt't have a problem with them stating that there is overpopulation or giving away a vasectomy, but to do it in conjunction of that week is very insensitive. It seems they are always going for a shock factor. Doesn't seem like the most effective WTG IMO!!

@Candice I agree completely. I see the humor in giving away a vasectomy. I don't think everyone wants to have children and that's fine. What really bothered me is that they went out of their way to say it was in "honor" of Fertility Awareness.

It's like giving away doughnuts in "honor" of diabetes.

PETA does look for the shock factor. I agree, what is that..

Hi there. I was inspired by your story and love your blog. My fears of infertility due to having endometriosis were abandoned back in November when my husband and I found out that we were expecting.

i cannot imagine being without this precious gift and I too find this truly heinous.

Life is a gift that should be treasured not treated lightly. Thank you for posting this.

This is the second blog I follow that has expressed their outrage about this. Quite frankly, I am not surprised. PETA is a ridiculous, extremist organization! I LOVE animals (More than many people), but I DO NOT support PETA!
